PG *wesaną, OE wesan V (cf. bēon) and the corresponding subset of ME bēn, MnE be. Earlier form vesa; present variants er, est, es, imperative ves, vesom, vesiþ, preterite vas, plural óru, vóru, participle vesinn. The present behaves mostly like a preterite, but in its preterite this verb strictly follows the fifth strong conjugation.
